When you made your workout plan, you didn't anticipate getting injured. We know that sport and exercise injuries don't happen at convenient times which is why MU Health Care is offering an early morning walk-in clinic for the treatment of acute injuries* that occurred within the last week.
At our Sports Medicine Injury Clinic, you can see a provider and get answers in one location. Our clinic offers onsite services including X-rays, casting/splinting, bracing and therapy. If additional care, such as surgery, is necessary, you will be referred to one of our orthopaedic surgeons for further treatment.
The Sports Medicine Injury Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 7 to 8 a.m. with no appointment necessary. You will be seen on a first-come, first-serve basis.
We also offer special hours for middle and high school athletes on Saturday mornings during the fall sports season, beginning Aug. 27th, 2022, and ending Nov. 5th, 2022. Saturday hours are from 9 to 10 a.m., and can help athletes who sustained injuries during games on Fridays be seen without having to wait until Monday.
When to See a Sports Medicine Doctor
Sometimes it can be hard to tell when you’re just sore and hurting or injured. Other times you know right away. A musculoskeletal injury is a condition that won’t go away on its own, and will get worse if you continue to play, practice or move the affected area without treatment. At MU Health Care, our sports medicine experts can diagnose the problem and get you back to your activity as safely and as soon as possible.
As an athlete, you know your body well, and your team’s trainer can help you understand if your injury is serious. Whether it’s landing wrong going down stairs or a hard hit in a game, if your injury doesn’t stop hurting overnight, stop by our walk-in clinic the next morning. Hearing a muscle or joint “pop,” or feeling a bone break, is another sign.
Our sports medicine experts can also help you with nutrition-related issues, cramping, low iron levels and other issues you might experience with an active lifestyle.
