When you’re ready to begin your road to recovery, we will be with you every step of the way. At University of Missouri Health Care, we will help you recover from significant heart and lung problems and get back to full strength. Services

Phase 1

During a patient’s hospitalization, a cardio/pulmonary rehabilitation nurse will speak with patients and family about disease management, activity progression and risk-factor modification and provide information specific to the patient’s situation.

Phase II

After release from the hospital, the patient is put on a monitored exercise program with intensive education regarding disease processes and necessary lifestyle changes. Strategies for controlling cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, weight and smoking are discussed. Patients receive a medical evaluation, physical activity counseling, nutritional counseling, physical-therapy consultations, dietary education, respiratory therapy consults, support and frequent communication with referring physicians.

Phase III

Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation offers a program for a limited time for those who have completed Phase II and are not quite ready to exercise independently. This is designed to bridge them into our independent exercise program through Mizzou Therapy Services. Some may also feel comfortable enough to continue an exercise program at home or at a local gym.
