Research Profile

Dr. Liu's research has been focused on bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs), their differentiation into endothelial cell and cardiomyocytes and related mechanisms, especially the role of cell-cell interactions, microenvironment, nitric oxide, oxidative stress, ERK1/2, Akt signaling, TACE/TNF-α signaling, Notch signaling, and STAT‐3 pathways.

Currently, his efforts have been largely directed to investigating the effect of cardiovascular risk factors, including hyperlipidemia and diabetes mellitus (DM) as well as environmental factors, especially air pollution and gut microbes on BMSCs and vascular function, and related mechanisms. Dr. Liu's team  are also very active on investigating cardiovascular regeneration using BMSCs and novel biomaterials, as well as the in vivo survival of BMSCs and related mechanisms.

Dr. Liu's research also includes a variety of clinical researches like phase 3 clinical trials, cardiac device studies, and cardiac arrhythmia management.
