Across Missouri, children with mental and behavioral health disorders often don’t have access to the help they need. An estimated 1 in 4 children have clinically significant behavioral health disorders.
There are not enough behavioral health providers to treat them all, and access is an even bigger issue for kids in rural and underserved areas of the state. But Missouri Child Psychiatry Access Project Schools (MO-CPAP Schools) can help educators get kids the help they need close to home.
Based on the successful MO CPAP Primary Care Project started in 2018, MO CPAP Schools plans to launch their services in November 2022. We recognize that schools, like primary care settings, are a critical behavioral health access point for many young people and their families.
MO CPAP Schools Services Include:
Clinical Consultation: MO-CPAP Schools employ a school nurse, counselor and a PhD Social worker who are available for consultations upon request within one school day.
Behavioral Health Coach: MO-CPAP Schools will work with school employees to help them find community-based behavioral health care for their students, provide options for referrals, and assist in coordinating follow-up
Education: MO-CPAP Schools will offer ongoing educational and training opportunities, so school employees can improve their skills and stay current with evidence-based behavioral health strategies.
