Research Profile

As Director of the Clinical Research Center, I am involved in managing many clinical trials. As an Ophthalmology Professor, my research interests have been in diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. I am the Principle Investigator for the EDIC clinical trial, which is the longest running trial in the US examining the clinical course of patients with type I diabetes. I am currently examining a urine sensor for the presence of diabetic retinopathy, which may avoid yearly screening eye exams.
