As we discover more advanced treatments, research and technology, we’re constantly looking ahead to ensure our experts have the resources and facilities they need to give our patients the best care. Our new centralized hospital campus is one piece of a reimagined model of care that better prioritizes the inpatient, outpatient and primary care needs of our community.
With a growing shift from inpatient to outpatient care, there are three distinct needs we’re looking to address with our reimagined model of care:
Treating a complex condition often requires more than one specialist. By creating a centralized hospital campus, we’re able to create expert teams with a variety of specialists to treat the patient as a whole in a caring, coordinated way.
As care becomes more advanced, many procedures and treatments that used to require multi-day hospital stays are now able to be performed in outpatient clinics, allowing patients to recover faster and from the comfort of their own home.
One of our next steps for our reimagined model of care will be addressing our outpatient care to offer more options with a streamlined and convenient experience.
As the first line of defense in getting and staying well, primary care providers offer preventative care, chronic health management, easy referral access and more.

Our Children’s Hospital plays a vital role in caring for mid-Missouri’s children with complex medical conditions. By offering care in more than 30 pediatric subspecialties, kids don’t have to travel hours for treatments and follow-up visits or be separated from their families during inpatient stays. Instead, families have the comfort of knowing they have 24/7/365 access to expert care close to home if ever the need arises.
As we look ahead to ensure our pediatric care delivery and resources are prepared to meet future demands, we recognize the nearly 50-year-old building in which our Children’s Hospital is located is unable to meet the standards of care in this evolving health care landscape, compromising our sustainability and future growth. Not only that, but additional challenges in pediatric care, including a shortage in pediatric providers and limited resources for rare disorders, have made it increasingly difficult to keep specialized care local in smaller regions like mid-Missouri.
